Chatterton’s, Inlet at Ongunquit, Maine, Circa 1935, is a quintessential example of this artist at his best. The magic of a summer day is beautifully rendered with Chatterton’s warm and engaging style which came to define him as well as reflect the influence of his dear friend and fellow artist, Edward Hopper. Chatterton and Hopper spent many summer days painting in Ongunquit, successfully capturing the wonderful light and architecture of their beloved seaside town.
