"Still Life with Fruit with Wine Glass" , 1872
Oil on canvas
8 x 10 inches
Signed and dated lower right
In Still Life with Fruit and Wine Glass, Forster explores his fascination with the effects of light in his treatment of the wine glass. Although the composition is one of a conventional still life arrangement, with items chosen specially to achieve pleasing aesthetic combinations, Forster was interested in suggesting the reality and immediacy of his subject, as seen in the highlighted dew drops glistening on the fruit and table top.
