Artist Biography

Originally from the Pittsburgh area, Howard Logan Hildebrandt studied at New York’s National Academy of Design, the Academie Julian and was one of a small number of non-French applicants to be accepted into the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. More than many of his peers, Hildebrandt enjoyed creating more elaborate and colorful backgrounds for his both his indoor  and outdoor genre scenes and portraits infused with light and the cheerful palette that he became associated with during the course of his career. Hildebrandt received numerous awards and prizes for his work and his work can be found in numerous public and private collections including the Butler Institute in Ohio and the National Academy of Design among others.
