Artist Biography

 Julian Alden Weir was a painter and etcher born in West Point, New York. He was a pupil of his father, the painter Robert W. Weir, at West Point and of Gerome in Paris. He was a member of the National Academy of Design in New York, then was elected an Associate to the Academy in 1886, and acted as it's president from 1915-17. Weir was awarded many prizes and exhibited widely at numerous organizations and shows including : the Paris Exposition of 1900, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1910, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in 1914. Weir was also a member of the American Watercolor Society, Ten American Painters, and the National Institute of Arts and Letters.
